Cycling
From alpine passes to ancient coastal paths — the mountains on two wheels.
Cycling opens up a completely different relationship with the landscape. The effort of the climb — the burning legs, the controlled breathing, the metronomic rhythm of the pedal stroke — creates a heightened state of awareness. And then comes the descent: the wind, the speed, the unfolding landscape, the reward for the effort. Cycling is simply a different way to discover a place. You could explore a region on foot and return the following year with a bike, and it would feel like an entirely new experience. At Red Fox Trails, our cycling program ranges from more challenging mountain rides to gentle E-bike tours through Swiss valleys, Greek islands, and everywhere in between. A blend of hiking and cycling is also possible — and sometimes, it is the best way to do it.
E-Bike Adventures
The E-bike has transformed mountain cycling. High-quality electric-assist bikes mean that the gradients that would defeat most recreational cyclists become thoroughly achievable. Our E-bike tours are designed to maximize the experience while minimizing the suffering: we use the motor to climb efficiently, then descend on scenic trails that reveal memorable landscape.
Our Swiss E-Bike Circuit is our most popular cycling offering: connecting the Bernese Oberland, the Valais, and the Graubünden via high-altitude trails and valley paths, staying in traditional Swiss mountain hotels. The daily distances (40-70km) are comfortably within reach for most riders, and the scenery — the Aletsch Glacier, the Matterhorn, the Engadin lakes — is simply extraordinary.
Switzerland has over 9,000km of dedicated cycling routes, maintained to a standard that puts most other countries to shame. Many of these routes follow old paths — former cart tracks, canal towpaths, and river valleys — that provide a fascinating historical dimension to the riding.
Mountain Biking & Flow Trails
The mountains of Central Europe have invested heavily in mountain bike infrastructure, and the results are spectacular. Zermatt has 20+ trails ranging from beginner flow tracks to technical enduro lines, all accessible by cable car from the village. The Saalbach-Hinterglemm bike resort in Austria has over 400km of marked trails. We offer guided mountain bike days in both locations.
The Islands
With sceneries that seem to come straight out of a postcard, it is no mystery that the islands of Europe (Mediterranean and Atlantic) are the ideal terrain for a two-wheeled adventure. Places like Cyprus, Mallorca or Madeira are an El Dorado for cyclists. The terrain ranges from smooth coastal paths to winding mountain roads, and the combination of physical effort, extraordinary scenery, and spontaneous swimming stops makes this one of the most joyful cycling experiences we offer.
